If your dog stops breathing or becomes unresponsive in an emergency, you can try to save their life by performing CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation). First, lay your dog on their side on a flat surface. If your dog is very flat-chested (like a bulldog), you may need to place them on their back instead. Place your hands over the widest part of their chest (for most dogs) or directly over the heart (for smaller or keel-shaped breeds), lock your elbows, and push down hard and fast - aim for about 100 to 120 pushes (compressions) per minute, pressing to about a quarter of the chest's width each time. After 30 chest compressions, gently close your dog’s mouth, place your mouth over their nose to create a seal, and blow in two breaths, just enough to make the chest rise.
